Work in Progress II

Hi friends! Time for another progress check in. I published the first kick-off post on October 26th and progress has remained steady. I’ve kept on schedule with my 5 day a week workout plan. Diet has also remained (mostly) dope, although I did indulge in some Halloween and birthday party-related cheats.

I’ve been increasing the difficulty and complexity of my movements this week with my trainer. I’ve left feeling destroyed every day. Here’s the post-gym selfie from 11/10/19. And, yes, my glasses do have flowers on them.

Follow me on Snapchat @RCArrowsmith for more d-bag gym selfies.

And a quick pic from tonight. Like I mentioned in my last post, I don’t always notice the changes because I see myself every day. It’s always fun running into people I haven’t seen in awhile and seeing their reaction though. Tonight I ran into an old friend at Target who was beyond sweet and flattering (and a little handsy). :) I’ve still got a long way to go but y’all know how to make a guy feel purty.

No shirtless pics this update because I already feel douchey enough. :) I promise more nipples in my next progress update.

Milestones

Again, don’t ask me to explain what all of these numbers mean. :) . I just know that they’re all trending in the direction we wanna see them go.

In other fitness news:

  • I signed up for two 5Ks over the next couple months with friends. I don’t love running but I’m excited to see if I can improve on my time with each run.

  • I also agreed to try out for the local Rugby club in the spring, which seems terrifying. Luckily I have a few months to practice and continue bulking up.

Lessons Learned:

  • PR gains won’t happen every week, despite your best efforts.

  • Don’t tell your trainer no. It never ends well.

  • There will always be someone with something shitty to say. Put it into your workout.

  • Don’t drop the dumbells when doing the green mile; they’ll make you start over at rep one.

That’s where we stand today. I’ll check in with you guys in another couple weeks.

Meet the Artist

Hi there. This post is about me because I always love the #meettheartist posts but I’ve never taken the time to do one. Until now! You’re welcome. 😂

LIKES: RAISING DION is my current favorite Netflix binge. JENNY LEWIS is playing Tulsa this week and I can’t wait to see her! SWEATER WEATHER who remembers that SNL skit? So glad it’s finally here tho. WORKING ON MY HOUSE has been a constant theme lately. I’ve put in a gravel patio and now I’m doing a hand-poured cement border around the patio and paths. Fall is the time for WEEKEND TRIPS with the people you love (and like). TEA & A BOOK my favorite part of the season: curling up under a blanket on these cool, rainy days with a glass of tea and escaping into a book. .

DON’T LIKES: I love going to the gym but I loathe LEG DAY even though these legs are fire. Never liked ONIONS on about anything; even worse when they are surprise onions. Tagging on to my likes above, the worst part of reading is the END OF A GOOD BOOK. And, in general, not a huge fan of PEOPLE WHO ARE JERKS.

Ready for Summer

Hi friends! It’s a typical spring here in Oklahoma, which means a lot of rain! I can’t help but daydream about the sunny days of summer ahead. I surprised my kiddo again this year with Safari Joe’s season passes, so we’ll be spending a lot of time at the waterpark this summer.

Here’s my summer goals:

Except maybe add a frozen margarita in every now and again,

Old Stuff: Return of the Hostas

In the spring of 2015, we put in a flower bed in front of our house. Since the front of our house was mostly shaded by a gigantic Oak tree, we were limited on what we could plant in the bed. We settled on mostly Hostas with a few other shade-lovin’ buddies mixed in.

The next spring, after a late snow, little green Hosta leaves started popping up through the mulch. I was thrilled. I was jazzed to see that some of our Hostas had survived the winter, but it also was the first sign that winter was ending and spring was coming soon.

No need to adjust your dial; I had bleached my hair and dyed it gray around the time of this illustration.

This little baby was drawn in my trusty Pentallic Traveler Sketchbook. It’s lined with a Prismacolor Fine Liner (it worked fine but it’s not my favorite) and painted with various shades of Copic markers. The background color is my favorite go-to shade for my sketchbook settings: Tea Green by Winsor Newton Promarkers.
